SPRING HILL - A 47-year-old woman was struck by two cars and killed Friday night along U.S. 19, said the Florida Highway Patrol.

A vehicle was traveling northbound shortly before 11:30 p.m. along U.S. 19 and State Road 55 along the outside lane when it mowed down the pedestrian, troopers said.

The driver fled in an unknown direction.

The woman was lying in the road when a second vehicle - a 2006 Mitsubishi - ran over her, according to an accident report.

The driver of that vehicle is Asja Atherton, 20, of 10448 Clingman St. in Spring Hill. She was not injured and has not been charged.

It is not known whether the victim was still alive when she was hit by the second vehicle, said Trooper Larry Coggins. An autopsy will be done next week.

The victim's name was not identified as of Saturday afternoon. Her next of kin had not yet been notified.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call 1-800-500-1240, Ext. 169.
