SPRING HILL Members of the Spring Hill Amateur Radio Club (SHARC) will participate in a yearly nationwide demonstration of emergency communications known as "Field Day" on Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29.
The ham radio operators, using wireless technology, will use Morse code, voice, and digital modes of communicating. Attendees can meet and talk with ham radio operators and see what ham radio is about. Ham stations in several radio bands will be set up at the Hernando County Airport from 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29.
Enter through the American Aviation entrance at 2495 Broad Street (U.S. 41), just south of Spring Hill Drive. The public is invited.

The local hams can talk with, and send and receive messages, with other hams in Hernando County, throughout West Central Florida, and nationally and internationally. Using generators, storage batteries, and solar power, ham operators set up emergency radio stations in parks, shopping malls and back yards around the United States to test their skills under emergency situations.
More than 30,000 amateur radio operators across the country participated in last year's event.
