BROOKSVILLE An intermediate cleanup of the old public works compound in downtown Brooksville could move forward Tuesday when county commissioners discuss approving a cost-sharing plan.
Assistant County Engineer Gregg Sutton said he wants to split the costs of the initial cleanup of the contaminated site at 201 West Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. between the project consultant and a private excavation firm.
To do that, commissioners need to approve an $85,790 change order for Brooksville-based Creative Environmental Solutions, the county-hired consultant handling the DPW project.
The county would then obtain bids from disposal companies that would truck the contaminated soil to a landfill designed to hold contaminated waste.
The intermediate cleanup can occur while the Florida Department of Environmental Protection continues to review the consultant's site assessment reports, Sutton said.
Commissioners will discuss the DPW change order at their business meeting which begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 North Main St. in downtown Brooksville.
