With VFW Post 8681 Commander Bob Corthell were Color Guard Bob Humphrey, Guard Don Hammer, flag bearers Jerry Hanson, Lynn Daffer, Michael Pierce, firing squad Will Short, Bryce Taylor and Michael Campbell - and at the flag pole, Howie Haugh and Bob Wilson. Also present were VFW men's auxiliary flag bearer Charles Addy, VFW women's auxiliary flag bearer Elizabeth Krushner, Pledge of Allegiance and Memorial Orders by Kenny Greenlee, welcome address Cemetery Committee President Jim Sikes, salute and roll call of all veterans of all wars resting in this cemetery by Ann Hendrix. The memorial wreath was placed by Mary Hammer and Kenny Greenlee and "Taps" was played by bugler Joe Mahoney. Refreshments were served immediately following the event at the Community Hall. Another job well done by everyone, especially coordinator Christine Kovacs.

Congratulations to Danielle Kuka, who graduated from Hernando Christian Academy on May 23. Her proud parents are Vince and Tracy Kuka and grandmother Joan Kuka. Best friends through all these school years, Mary Ellen Langley also graduated HCA. Her proud parents are mom Ginia Langley, father Jim Langley Jr. and his wife Denise, grandparents Ellen and Jim Langley Sr. Good luck to both gals in their future.

The party continues for Virginia Ver - guests, niece Jinny and hubby Ed Wentzel from Naples, her dad Al Castillo Sr., his wife Bertha, Al Castillo Jr. and his fiance Brenda Hodge from Fort White. All stayed at the Kugler House in Brooksville, owned by George and Diana Rodriguez. Jinny prepared a full Italian dinner - spaghetti, meatballs, etc. for this 89th birthday. After dinner, the house began to rock. Al Jr. and Brenda entertained. Al Jr. has a band called "The Outlaws." They do D.J. and karaoke engagements for all age groups. They played for this party and did some country, reggae, and lyrical storytelling to everyone's enjoyment. They also brought their boat and enjoyed our waterway - the Weekiwachee River; they enjoyed almost a whole day at the Christmas House, finding many great items.

Get well wishes to former Mayor John Kovacs who is in HealthSouth Rehab Center after surgery at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson. Heal fast.

George Rodriguez took his father, Shorty Torres, to Brooksville Regional Hospital. His wife, Provi Torres, not feeling well herself, sat by his side and she is now in a room there with pneumonia - wishing both quick recoveries.

Cheryl Atkinson has returned from a week trip to Oshkosh, Wis., to visit with her critically ill son, 33-year-old Thomas Siler. He has been transported to Milwaukee. We pray for a speedy recovery. Also, Cheryl thanks everyone for their support, consideration and many prayers.

Helen Parsolano and daughters, Stephanie and Rebecca, coordinated a four-day camping trip over Memorial Day weekend at the Collier Seminole State Park in Naples for 14 people. They enjoyed cooking out, camping and canoeing. All had a great time and special thanks to grandma Helen Havens who babysat Bunny and Bird.

Big thank yous from two granny waitresses at Harmony House Family Restaurant, Elizabeth Smith and Magdalena Kelsimidis - owners Pete and Mandreanu for their surprise party for the gals' grandchildren, Anna Smith and Peter Kelsimidis. They all enjoyed a special lunch and a special cake made by Pete and decorated with a pink heart for Anna and a Purple Heart for Peter. All enjoyed lunch, the cake, balloons; and there aren't enough thank yous to say!
