Hernando County went dark for 90 minutes Tuesday morning as thunderstorms dumped an inch of rain.
Progress Energy reported 400 customers lost power between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the area directly south of the Brookridge subdivision on State Road 50. Several traffic lights were knocked out as a result.
The National Weather Service predicted scattered showers through Tuesday night and a repeat of morning thunderstorms Wednesday. Florida's near daily summer showers have shifted from the afternoon to the morning because the precipitation is now brewing in the Gulf of Mexico overnight and flowing from the southwest to the northeast. Afternoon showers spawn from weather flowing from the east to the west.
