Man Charged In Beating, Robbery

Deputies say a man was beaten unconscious Saturday by a robber.

The robbery occurred about 2:30 p.m. outside 16129 Wilson Blvd. and authorities point to John Kopasz as the perpetrator.

The victim was taken to the hospital in a serious condition; his passenger was also attacked, but he escaped with minor injuries, a report states.

Kopasz, 40, who lives at the address on Wilson, was charged with unarmed burglary, battery and burglary.

Deputies Scrap With Suspect

SPRING HILL - Local deputies tussled with a suspect for five minutes Friday before he was arrested on a battery charge.

The deputies were attempting to serve a warrant on James Hines, 35, after his wife told authorities he strangled her and threw her against a wall on July 10.

Hines followed her outside as she escaped with her children and jumped on the car as she left, a report states.

On Friday, the victim led deputies to the garage in her home, 10462 Tassel St., where her husband was hiding. Deputies ordered Hines to step away from the vehicle in the garage and unsuccessfully fired a stun gun at him when he failed to comply.

Deputies then jumped him and "after approximately five minutes of fighting" were able to subdue him, a report states. He later told deputies he was attempting to grab a knife from the car so deputies would shoot him, according to a report.

Hines was charged with resisting arrest with violence, false imprisonment, battery by strangulation and violation of a domestic violence injunction.
