Going Green Can Pay Off In Greenbacks

Re: "Green Not So Green" in the July 18 edition of Hernando Today.

First off, the letter writer shouldn't mock what she calls the liberal global warming alarmists for their beliefs on what might be happening to the Earth. I bet if a Republican was the one who ranted about it rather than Al Gore, her tune would be different.

Serena Sefried ought to watch" Living With Ed" on the Planet Green Channel. Ed Begeley and his wife Rachelle are the hosts. Ed was one of the doctors on St. Elsewhere. He is fanatical when it comes to going green. He's been doing it since the 1970s before he had a lot of money. The house is solar paneled, and there is a hybrid along with an electric car on the premises. Ed is so bad that he has a rain barrel uderneath a rain spout so he can decide where the water goes.

One day last week the viewer ended up at the solar paneled mansion of Larry Hagman. Did you know his electric bill used to be $37,000 a year and now it's like $13 a year? He even powers five low-income homes in his nearby neighborhood.

If I had the money to go green I would do as much as I could, even if global warming didn't happen. If the sun slammed into Mars creating an ice age later, at least I would have enjoyed the green I wouldn't have spent for being on the grid.
