SPRING HILL - A teenager is suspected of leaving the scene of a crash, then running his car into a tree in his haste to get away.
Around 1 a.m. Thursday, two vehicles collided at Coronado and Spring Hill drives, but the driver of a Jeep Cherokee sped away from the scene, a report states.
The other victim in the crash dialed 911 and followed the suspect, Ryan Thomas, 17, south on Linden Drive. Thomas crashed into a 20-foot palm tree and snapped it in half on Jessica Street, but after that the victim lost sight of the Jeep, an affidavit states.
As investigators returned to the scene of the original crash, Thomas reported a hit-and-run accident from his home at 359 Forest Wood Court, a report shows. He was subsequently arrested on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injury.

BROOKSVILLE After recovering the crack cocaine rock he threw out the window, deputies arrested a Brooksville man on drug charges Wednesday.
Deputies patrolling Jefferson Street pulled over a pickup for its dark tinted windows and, as the car rolled onto the shoulder of Sardis Street, noticed a white "substance" fly out the passenger window, a report shows.
As one deputy recovered what later tested positive for crack cocaine, the other deputy arrested the passenger, Ricky Frazier, 41, of 915 Josephine St., on drug charges and gave the pickup's driver, Willie Strong, 63, a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.
