Re: Drugging of children a diversion?
So, is this to say also, that the men and women of today who are taking Prozac and other meds to treat anxiety, depression, etc. are taking something that isn't needed? I am certain that there are those parents who give the child something to just calm him/her down when unruly, but there are very real cases out there that can not go with out being treated with meds.
You need to get all the facts before you jump on the bandwagon.
Case in point: My step-grandson. For several years the family had to deal with him setting fire to the barn, the house and even once to a neighbor's barn. Also, he would go on tirades of yelling, screaming, cursing and spewed the ugliest profanity. Not to mention the physical abuse of his siblings, mother and one of his teachers. It was, in fact, one of his teachers who finally went to child services and turned him and his entire family in for not doing something to alleviate this problem and get some medical attention for this child. He was only 9 at the time when the really bad things started happening. Before that it was small things like fighting among the siblings, back talk, tearing up his and the sibling's toys and clothing, torturing the family pets, feeding laxatives to the horses and emptying the trash cans on the lawn.
After being on medication for only a month there was a drastic change and by the age of 11 he was functioning normally. So, don't go blasting all meds and all pharmacists and all doctors for all the real problems that occur because one or more chemicals are not being produced properly or at all by the brain and very often aren't given proper attention to by the parents.
There are some instances when medication is much needed and really a blessing to the family, neighbors and schools when it comes to mental and emotional needs.
