Pedestrian Struck In Hit-And-Run

BROOKSVILLE - A 64-year-old woman likely suffered a broken leg after she was hit by a motorcyclist who left her on the side of the road.
No one saw the hit-and-run accident Monday, but Earnestine Scriven was alert enough to give a description of the bike and its rider to Brooksville officer Bryan Drinkard.
The officer was still talking with the victim when an ambulance rolled up and medics began treating her injuries. They decided to call for a medical helicopter, which took her to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa around 3:30 p.m.
Her condition was still pending X-rays and other tests.
Johnny Williams was driving by the intersection of Russell Street and S. Brooksville Boulevard and saw what looked like a bundle of trash on the side of the road.
"I didn't know it was human being," said Williams, 65.
When he realized it was a woman, Williams pulled over and got out to see if he could help. Another motorist had already stopped and called 911.
Williams found Scriven lying on her side and her leg tucked under her at an unnatural angle. Although coherent, "she was obviously in pain," he said.
The accident happened directly across the street from the old Brooksville Train Depot, but no one was around at the time. Onlookers said dirt bikes are a constant headache in this area and frequently speed along nearby Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and its side streets.
Even as first responders set to their work, the whine of dirt bikes could clearly be heard in the background.
