Sticking It To The Taxpayers
Possibly, I am under a misguided conception; but wasn't the Lottery supposed to help alleviate the property tax burden on the residents of Florida by being directed to the school portion of resident property taxes?
I get so darn confused by all of the things that we are supposed to take in on a daily basis from our local government. Quite possibly, this could be remedied by not being handed so much deception in regards to what these officials are "going to do once elected" and what they actually do accomplish once elected.
I keep hearing the phrase "more bang for the buck" on TV commercials. When will we get ours from our local officials? Or, quite possibly, we have "gotten ours," so to speak!
They whine and complain about not having enough money for this or that, but I will bet that they aren't hurting for money to pay their property taxes, huh?

Wakeup Taxpayers, Voters
This is not an opinion; it is a supported fact.
Every one of the current County Commissioners needs to be removed from office and never elected for anything again.
The supporting facts are:
1.) County Administrators flow through our county at a rate above the flow of the Withlacoochee River.
2.) Larry Jennings fills in and does a good job as the Interim County Administrator but refuses to take the "less than stable" job of County Administrator. As a long time dedicated employee of Hernando County that has had to deal with the Commissioners he knows better than us what makes sense, and his actions clearly say, "I'm not going to be the scapegoat for an incompetent County Commission."
Maybe next year after we have given this group the boot, and the new Administrator leaves in frustration we can get someone as good as Larry to take this job.

The Simple Truth
I have to respond to Pat Hernandez's assertion (Letters, Jan. 17) that "the Florida Legislature has taken away the Democratic delegates" because it simply isn't true.
Our Legislature has no power to take delegates away from either party. What they did was move our primary election to a date more in keeping with the state's pivotal role in recent general elections.
The Democratic delegates were taken by the Democratic National Committee's chairman, Howard Dean. Mr. Dean threw a hissy fit and wanted to spank the state for daring to mess with his carefully choreographed sequence of primary events, so he disenfranchised members of his own party. He did the same thing in Michigan.
I'm fairly certain that Ms. Hernandez is aware of the truth, but couldn't resist the chance to foment rancor. This is the sort of thing that makes so many dissatisfied with politics, politicians and political hacks on both sides of the aisle. Can't we have the simple truth now and then?
