Deal With The Devil
Ever notice how tight people accuse you of being tight because you don't share everything with them?
Ever notice that people with ulterior motives think you have them, and people who lie assume everybody else does?
These people believe everybody has their bad traits without seeing it in themselves.
I've been accused of thinking simply in terms of, "Democrat vs. Republican..." Yet in my letter dated Dec. 29, I said, "Our want for an easy life is doing us in, not a particular political party."
Still, I read on Dec. 12 on these pages that, "The actual Democratic Party brought us Social Security, victory in World War II, the moon landing, civil rights legislation..." Now, I ask, which is more partisan?
On the other hand, Republicans are being accused of racism because Southerners elected Nixon, Reagan and Bush. Reagan won 49 states! Somebody besides racists voted for him.
But Southerners also elected Carter and Clinton. So, are Carter and Clinton racists? By this logic they are.
Again, why does the deceased Strom Thurman still make Republicans evil racists but the current Democrat Sen. Robert Byrd, a member of the Ku Klux Klan, doesn't demonstrate racism within the Democrat Party?
As a pro-lifer, I do realize the Republicans haven't been very successful on banning abortion. But in the case of abortion, Republican failure is far preferable to the Democrats' success in their endless effort to expand it.
Further, this failure flies in the face of accusations that Republicans are being intrusive into people's personal lives. Talk of SWAT teams is a phony political fear tactic.
My wife, mother and several sisters have all suffered miscarriages. Miscarriages are not an excuse for an intrusive investigation or a blanket excuse for not banning abortion.
I most definitely support all babies getting the correct medical attention they need and greater properly run adoption services.
I do not support widespread birth control. Where's the proof that reduces abortion? Obviously, we have more of both today.
This doesn't entail greater expenditures of money; it requires shifts in priorities and greater efficiency. But government doesn't seem to do anything well.
For government to work right, we need to fire inefficient employees and spend the money on the needs of the American people. Whether we realize it or not, inept government has cost many American lives.
Does closing down these clinics mean there will be no botched abortions anywhere? No, but botched abortions are currently performed every day.
Remember the nurse in Chicago fired for caressing a crying baby until it died after it was a botched partial-birth abortion. How quickly we forget!
I don't look at the politics of abortion primarily; I look at the medical facts. It has been demonstrated time and again that aborted babies have feelings, emotions, personality and often viability to survive outside the womb.
Pro-lifers have wanted to inform parents about these medical facts before an abortion is performed, but Democrats continually block it.
What could be so dangerous about teaching parents about their babies?
Well, we are told most Americans want abortions legal. I don't agree. As we have seen here recently, it just depends on how the question is framed.
Still, on this issue it seems once again that Democrats looking for votes have made another deal with the devil - this one, the most hideous of all.

Love Letter Lacking
After reading Bill Press' love letter to Hillary, I have a question: Did she also get flowers and candy? How about a foot massage for the weary Mrs. Clinton? Big deal, the pollsters got it wrong in New Hampshire - just like in '04 when Kerry was going to beat Bush.
What is most disturbing about Hillary's "comeback" is that after eight years as First Lady, almost two terms as a U. S. senator and a year of campaigning, she just now "found her voice." A cynic would call that disingenuous. But Bill Press has the uncanny ability to only see Republicans as disingenuous.
Her experience should trounce Obama's vacuous lighter-than-air platitudes about change and hope. Remember, one day he will have to reveal the details of his plans for change, which should expose his lack of experience and left-wing naivete. That should bring some back to the more "experienced" Hillary. And Bill Press' fawning columns should keep him in good standing with Bill and Hillary.
