The Bush Legacy

In a column written by Howard Troxler, appearing Sunday, Dec. 7, in the St. Petersburg Times, it became clear just how much of an intrusion into citizen's private lives has reared its very ugly head. Why not expect this when illegal wiretapping of our people has gone unpunished? Kenneth City in Pinellas County attempted to pass what Troxler referred to as the "Mother of All Code Enforcement Ordinances." "The city would have the power to enter private homes to see that all was neat and tidy. If the homeowner refused entry, then the city could go to court and obtain something called an 'administrative search warrant.'"

Have we got anyone who is not in need of psychiatric help in office in Kenneth City? Now they would control your housekeeping? The nuts are trying to take over not only the world but also your most personal, familial choices in life. Why should we be surprised based on the past administration's sins against our Constitution? And now a team at the White House attempts to paint George W. Bush's legacy.

I will make their work easy for them right now!

•An illegal war against a people innocent of any charges against them, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Iraqis and the deaths and horrible wounding of our sons, daughters, husbands, wives.

•Illegally detaining hundreds of people without charges for more than seven years with rights to habeas corpus and attorneys denied. Breach of the Geneva Convention and authorization from the very top to torture people not even charged with a crime.

•Environmental deregulation which threatens, not only our most pristine areas, but puts at risk our very health and survival! Illegal wiretapping and requests, even to libraries to obtain lists of people and which books they were reading.

•Tax breaks for the wealthiest in our society while prices for all our necessities go through the roof and wage scale for the working, middle class remain static, causing some of us to choose between food on the table and paying our mortgage.

•The total destruction, not only of the economy of the United States, but of the entire world now threatened, while recession was denied for more than a year. (They are trying to blame Clinton and, unbelievably, even Barack Obama for the recession - they are either crazy or they think we the people are totally stupid!)

The list is so much longer than the above but I have limited words allowed in this column, so I will just barely mention stuff like the apartment building in New Orleans untouched by the disaster of Katrina. The folks who lived there have never been allowed to move back into their homes, apartments now (undamaged by the storm) being converted to condominiums priced to the wealthy inhabitants. If this theft of property is not a crime, why isn't it? Because they have gone unstopped and unpunished for all their many crimes, so why not go for broke?

So I hope I have saved our country some money to pay those hired to alter Bush's legacy! It cannot be altered but is accurately described herein! You know, when the cold war was going on, Russia went so far as to start editing the school books, changing the truth to outright lies. Is the Bush legacy liar's group thinking maybe they should think that one over? Our current president has apparently abdicated his throne with the exception of the dirty deeds he continues to leave in place as he exits the White House. One of his pet projects is deregulation of toxic substance exposure standards to our workers. He is trying to put a new rul" in place that would allow such exposure to increase, with no penalties to the corporations (probably getting a big tax cut) being allowed or enforced. Any wonder that the contaminated site in Brooksville has languished for years while the people living in the area have suffered God knows what ailments and shortening of their lives and the lives of their children have already taken place? (Remember, Florida is controlled by Republicans)

Bush claims God speaks to him and guides him! To cause the death and suffering of God's creatures is not the plan any real Christian believes comes from God!

Until the crimes committed by these school-yard bullies are punished and set right, we cannot declare "mission accomplished." And, as to the legacy of G.W. Bush - this, sir, is your legacy. A legacy of crimes against our Constitution, against humanity, against the world, committed by a nonleader with a low IQ and even less morality!
