Grow House Dismantled On Neff Lake Road

BROOKSVILLE - Undercover deputies said they dismantled a marijuana grow house Thursday at 4375 Neff Lake Road.

A shed on the eastern side of the property held 43 marijuana plants, along with 83 grams of processed marijuana, in addition to 132 grams of discarded stems and roots outside, according to an arrest affidavit.

A search of Robert Niederbrack's home also turned up 126.7 grams of marijuana, rolling papers, plastic bags, a scale and a .22 caliber rifle in the master bedroom closet, the affidavit states. Niederbrack, 53, who had keys to the shed in his pocket, was arrested on charges of cultivation of marijuana, possession of a structure to manufacture marijuana, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, meter tampering, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon.

A woman who lives with Niederbrack, Eugenie Dexter, 63, was given a misdemeanor citation for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Niederbrack said she wasn't allowed in the shed and that she knew "nothing about nothing, if you know what I mean."

Doctor Stabbed With Pen By Inmate, Police Say

BROOKSVILLE - A doctor assessing the mental health of a county jail inmate was stabbed with a pen Wednesday by the man she was evaluating.

The doctor told a deputy she was asking Francis Mumma, 42, some questions to determine if he was a threat to himself or others when he grabbed a pen and stabbed his left hand three times, an arrest report states. He then stabbed the doctor in the upper arm hard enough to draw blood before making a stab at the booking clerk, the report states.

Mumma was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

Deputy-Involved Shooting Investigation 'Coming To A Closure'

TAMPA - An investigation into a fatal deputy-involved shooting on Oct. 21 is "coming to a closure," a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Thursday.

Deputy Lance Origon was on his way to investigate a "shot fired" call on Gifford Drive around 3 a.m. when he saw a bicyclist on Elgin Boulevard that matched the shooter's description, authorities say. That bicyclist, Luis Guillen, 36, refused to talk with Origon and walked away before turning around and making a motion toward his waistband, authorities say.

Guillen died in the backyard where he was shot at the intersection of Elgin Boulevard and Fairhaven Avenue.

As is routine procedure, FDLE is investigating the shooting and will submit its findings to the State Attorney's Office. After prosecutors decide whether criminal charges are appropriate, the sheriff's office will begin an internal investigation to decide whether Origon followed department procedure in the shooting.
