NonCandidate Takes Votes In U.S. House Primary

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Many voters probably didn't know Jim King dropped out of the Republican primary against incumbent Ginny Brown-Waite for the District 5 Congressional seat.

Others might have checked King as a protest against Brown-Waite.

Whatever the reason, King had garnered more than 8,500 votes, or nearly 22 percent, to Brown-Waite's 30,515 votes. In Hernando, with 54 precincts reporting, King got 1,491 votes, or 15 percent, to Brown-Waite's 8,318 votes.

King left the race July 15 after his resume, which touted his medical experience, didn't hold up to scrutiny.

District 5 includes all of Hernando, Citrus, and Sumter Counties and parts of Lake, Levy, Marion, Pasco and Polk Counties.
