Area Deaths

Edith Irene Smith, 88, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Spring Hill Health & Rehab, Brooksville. She was born in Brookville, Pa., and moved this area 26 years ago from the St. Petersburg-Seminole area.
Mrs. Smith was a retired seamstress for an upholstery shop.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Mumford of Snellsville, Ga., and Edward Mumford of Syracuse, N.Y.; two daughters, Wanda Seabol of Brooksville and Joyce Kaszubsky of Tonawanda, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Walter Luffsey, 74, of Weeki Wachee, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Spring Hill Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Richmond, Va., and moved to this area six years ago from Arlington, Va.
Mr. Luffsey worked in Aviation Standards for the Federal Aviation Agency. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Nativity Lutheran Church, Weeki Wachee.
Survivors include his wife, Louise; a son, Dennis Luffsey of Utah; a daughter, Melinda Jones of Pennsylvania; a stepson, John Jones of Pennsylvania; a sister, Jane Marion; a brother, Roland Luffsey Jr. of Virginia; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

James Mack "Pop" Washington, 63, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Brooksville Regional Hospital.
Mr. Washington was born in Brooksville and was a lifelong resident.
Survivors include his wife, Corine; three daughters, Shannette Washington, Kimberly Washington and Telecia Washington, all of Brooksville; a brother, Willie Washington of Bossier City, La.; three sisters, Louise Hodges and Emma Thomas, both of Yonkers, New York, and Karen Washington of Brooksville; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Walter Holodniak, 89, of Spring Hill, died Monday, Aug. 18, at Brooksville Regional Hospital. He was born in New York, N.Y.
Mr. Holodniak retired as a scale model engineer for the aeronautical industry. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, and was a Catholic by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M.; and his children.

William "Bud" Scronce, 81, of Spring Hill, died Thursday, Aug. 21, at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, Hudson. He was born in Vale, N.C., and moved to this area 16 years ago from New Jersey.
Mr. Scronce was a Korean conflict U.S. Army veteran and a life member of the TCOBC of New Jersey (family boating club).
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; three daughters, Kristina Clingo of Spring Hill, Susan Floge of Nevada and Sherri Quipp of Fort Lauderdale; a sister, Thelma Preslar of Ruffin, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

Edward T. Tammaro, 85, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Spring Hill, died Sunday, Aug. 17, in Albuquerque. He was born in New York, N.Y., and moved to New Mexico a year ago from Spring Hill.
Mr. Tammaro was a Catholic by faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Catherine Demo of Albuquerque; a brother, Tony Tammaro of New Jersey; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
