Easy Life, Not

Politics, Doing Us In

I want to thank Dallas Dunlap again for coming clean, admitting the Democrats have consistently dealt with the devil.

The problem is he somehow is OK with that while ranting diatribes about racism at Republicans. Is he not dealing with the devil now?

He wants to give Johnson credit for civil rights and then include all Democrats by association, although he just admitted it's not true. Republicans passed civil rights and he knows it.

He wants to claim Johnson's courage hurt the Democrats just like Bush's courage with Iraq hurt the Republicans in this coming election.

The Democrats forget that the surge is working, making the policy not wrong but the tactics used. Well, Lincoln, the only good Republican according to them, had it worse.

His chief general, a Democrat named McCellan, ran against him trying to end the Civil War without keeping the nation united and/or freeing the slaves.

Dunlap now accuses all Republicans of racism because of a political hack named Kevin Phillips. Kevin who?

Now let me admit my political ignorance - I've never heard of Democrats for Nixon and I was a Democrat then.

I grew up in Spokane, Wash., and was a huge Henry "Scoop" Jackson Democrat. Remember Watergate? That was Nixon's effort to end Scoop's presidential bid in 1972.

But I did become a Reagan Democrat and now a Reagan Republican - what I like to call a red blooded Republican as opposed to those rich Rockefeller blue bloods Dunlap aptly points out left the Republicans for the Democrats.

He is correct about special interests, but he's wrong about Democrats being for the poor working class. It is the party of Buffet, Gates, Soros and the Hollywood and media elites.

Republicans win in the South not because of racism but because the South has traditionally been poor working class.

Rich states like New York and California are Democrat blue states. Poor states like Nebraska and Oklahoma are big Republican red states. Dunlap fails to explain why - it isn't racism.

Now he admits the parties have changed but the crux of his earlier letter was that Democrats saved us from the grips of World War II, racism, etc. As Mr. Weiss and I have pointed out, it's not true.

Soldiers like my father and uncles saved us from Hitler. In fact, my father led a valiant black unit during that war of which he was extremely proud.

So for Dunlap to try and associate me and Republicans in general with the rich and the racists is a real dealing with the devil - hypocrisy at its worse.

As for a Soylent Green world, Dunlap's doubts aren't so reassuring.

If you told me 35 years ago that we would be aborting more than a million of our own babies in America each year after 1973, I'd have said you were insane.

Then we complain about immigrants doing the labor here because we have no babies of our own to do it. How's the work going to get done?

We complain about changes in our society we created by our promiscuity and lack of moral courage. Abortion has affected us in so many different ways.

Our want for the easy life is doing us in, not a particular political party.

However, the Democrats have catered to this illusion in order to get votes, making a similar deal with the devil, over the last 44 years.

Meanwhile, the Republicans have professed individual responsibility for at least as long as I've been a member.

Thanks, Hernando County

The week before Thanksgiving, during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week, Mid Florida Homeless Coalition encouraged Hernando residents to donate socks full of food and hygiene items for distribution by shelters and emergency service providers.

We would like to thank those who reached out to assist their fellow residents by donating these basic items to our local service providers.

These items are needed throughout the year, and we always appreciate the opportunity given to us by organizations to share information about the homeless of our community. We are grateful for the wonderful outpouring generosity of those in Hernando County.
