Decomposed Body Found

BROOKSVILLE - A woman's decomposing body was found Tuesday morning in a thick patch of woods adjacent to Brooksville Rock Road.

A CSX railroad worker made the discovery at 10 a.m. about 25 feet east of the road after he traced a foul odor to a flock of vultures.

Authorities are confident this is not a child because of her size, but the woman's age was unknown at press deadline. She had been dead for more than 24 hours, but the remains are not skeletal.

Brooksville Rock Road is a shaded paved road in north Hernando County that intersects Citrus Way. Public access closes past a railroad track when it becomes the property of the Cemex cement mixing plant.

William Hazivasilis once owned all of the surrounding property, but sold off all but a few acres he kept for himself and family. His gate is the closest to the crime scene.

Traffic is sparse on Brooksville Rock Road, he said, except for a handful of Cemex employees coming and going to work twice a day.

The woods where the body was discovered are thick and extend about a mile east before stopping at Citrus Way, he said.
