Living Healthy is a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program which will be offered at the CARES Rao Musunuru, M.D. Enrichment Center, 12417 Clock Tower Parkway commencing at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program "Living Healthy" is a workshop given for one and a half hours once a week for six weeks.
The program was developed by Stanford University and is licensed in the State of Florida through the Department of Health. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom are non-health professionals with chronic diseases themselves.
Subjects covered include:
•Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation,
•Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance,
•Appropriate use of medications,
•Communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals,
•Nutrition
•How to evaluate new treatments.
Each participant in the workshop will receive a copy of the book, "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions," Third Edition, and an audio relaxation tape, "Time for Healing." These materials are provided by the Department of Health.
Classes are highly participative. Mutual support helps build the participants' confidence in their ability to manage their health and to maintain active and fulfilling lives. To register for the classes, call the center at 727-863-6868.
