WEEKI WACHEE - The mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs will be participating in the Go Red For Women nationwide movement during February, which is American Heart Month.
During each performance of "The Little Mermaid" at Weeki Wachee Springs during the month of February, the mermaid performing as the 'Little Mermaid' will wear a red mermaid tail symbolizing their support to raise awareness of heart disease in women.
"The mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs support 'Go Red For Women'," said Mermaid Manager Marcy Terry. "We understand the importance of raising awareness in heart disease in the job that we do and we encourage all women to be proactive when it comes to a healthy heart," concluded Terry.
According to the American Heart Association, 'Go Red For Women' is "a critical step toward raising women's awareness of the magnitude of heart disease, and more importantly toward motivating action that will promote healthier hearts. Go Red For Women is creating a movement around the issue of women and heart disease. It is providing knowledge and tools to empower women to make positive changes in their lives that could help reduce their risk of heart disease and stoke."
