Hospice to hold volunteer training
in Brooksville
Hospice (HPH) has two team offices in Hernando County, and staff and volunteers help provide comfort to about 300 patients on an average daily basis countywide.
The Brooksville team would appreciate having more volunteers who are willing to visit patients in private residences, nursing homes, assisted living facilities or at the agency's Hospice Care Center in downtown Brooksville. These volunteers will offer compassion and support to individuals and family members who are affected by a life-limiting illness.
Over the course of a two-day training hosted by Hernando-Pasco Hospice (HPH), attendees will have the chance to learn about the nonprofit agency and the many ways in which they can become a vital part of its volunteer team.
Training will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27 and Friday, Feb. 29 at the HPH office located at 698 S. Broad St., Brooksville.
This team provides care, comfort, and support to patients and families affected by a life-limiting illness in eastern Hernando County.
Individuals who have a warm, compassionate heart and would like to make a difference in someone's life are encouraged to consider visiting a hospice patient for a few hours each week in that individual's private residence.
Typically, volunteers are matched with a patient who lives close by. Patient visitation is considered by HPH to be one of the most important and rewarding aspects of its volunteer program.
Individuals must pre-register for the training.
HPH welcomes seasonal residents and individuals age 16 and older who are interested in being a patient visitor. Cooks must be age 18 or up.
To learn more about this volunteer opportunity or others, call AnneClarke, volunteer coordinator,at 352-796-2611.
