N.Y. Orchestra's
New Year's event

SPRING HILL Frankie Dee New York Orchestra will host a New Year's celebration Friday, Dec. 31, at the Towne Square Family Restaurant, 3021 Commercial Way. Celebration will begin at 6 p.m. A five-course sit-down dinner will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and dancing will be held from 8:30 p.m. to midnight with an open bar. Meal choices will be beef, baked half-chicken, and baked fish, including appetizer, potato, vegetable, salad, dessert and coffee. Complimentary wine will be served with the meal. Champagne toast, party favors and continental breakfast will also be featured. Big Band sounds, Frank Sinatra, Jazz, Latin, Cha-Chas, Polkas, Waltzes, old-time favorites, today's upbeat sounds and more will be performed by 16 musicians and singers, with continuous entertainment by DJ Chris Smooth. High Point to hold
New Year's Party

BROOKSVILLE High Point will hold its annual New Year's Eve Party Friday, Dec. 31, at the High Point Community Center located at 12249 Club House Road. Buffet dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m. consisting of chicken cordon bleu and port/apple glaze, tossed salad, vegetables and an array of desserts. New Year's party
at Elks Lodge 2582

BROOKSVILLE Elks Lodge 2582 will hold a New Year's Eve Celebration Friday, Dec. 31, at the Lodge located at 14494 Cortez Blvd. Hors d'oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m. and appetizers at 7 p.m., followed by dinner. The menu will include a roast pork loin with dressing and gravy, or stuffed flounder with crab meat, along with a vegetable medley and twice-baked potatoes, salad and rolls, and dessert. Entertainment will be provided by Louie Fortunato. An open bar will be featured; and well drinks and call drinks will be $1 each. A champagne toast will be offered at midnight with pastries prepared by pastry chef Tony Arboritanza after midnight. Party favors will also be included. Ticket cost will be $50 per person. New Year's party

SPRING HILL Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council 6383 will host its New Year's Eve Party Friday, Dec. 31, at the Knights of Columbus located at 10470 Spring Hill Drive. Cocktail hour (cash bar) will be held at 7 p.m., followed by dinner featuring prime rib or stuffed fillet of sole, baked potato and string beans almondine. Champagne toast and continental breakfast will be featured, with open bar (well drinks) from 8 p.m. to midnight. Music will be provided by Angelo. The donation is $50 per person. German Club to hold
New Year's dance

BROOKSVILLE German American Club of Spring Hill will hold a New Year's Eve dance Friday, Dec. 31, at the Shriners Club of Hernando County, 13400 Montour St., off Sunshine Grove Road. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with hors d'oeuvres served from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Dancing will be held from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., and music will be provided by Alpen Diamanten. Semi-formal to formal attire is required. BYOB. A champagne toast and sandwiches will be featured at midnight. Advance tickets will be $15 per person for members and $25 per person for guests. SPRING HILL VFW Post 10209 will host a New Year's Eve dinner-dance Friday, Dec. 31, at the Post located at 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive, off Anderson Snow Road. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., and entertainment by Vintage (Rusty and Nick) will begin at 8 p.m. Dinner menu will be a choice of prime rib or half a chicken, with baked potato, salad, vegetables, bread, coffee and dessert. The cost will also include champagne toast at midnight, party hats and noise makers, and continental breakfast. A.M. Connection
to host brunch

WEEKI WACHEE Spring Hill, FL Saturday A.M. Connection, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries, invites all women to an "Oh! You Beautiful Doll!" brunch from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 8, at The Heather Community Center, 9100 Nakoma Way. The program guest and speaker will be Millie Farthing of Winter Haven. Farthing uses dolls from her collection to illustrate how to experience peace, hope, joy and comfort regardless of the circumstances of life. For show and tell, bring a treasured doll from a personal collection. The inclusive cost of the brunch is $9 per person, and reservations or cancellations are required by Thursday, Jan. 6. Soup-A-Thon

SPRING HILL St. Frances Cabrini Knights of Columbus will sponsor a Soup-A-Thon on Saturday, Jan. 15, in Xavier Hall of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd. The event will be conducted from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Soup-A-Thon is an "all the soup you can eat - one cup at a time" event, and carry-out will not be permitted. Attendees are encouraged to bring own cup and spoon, but cups and spoons will be available. Crackers will be provided; and soda, water and coffee will be available. Numerous restaurants throughout the county have committed to donate two gallons or more of their feature soup. Also, a bake sale will be sponsored by the "Right to Life" Ministry. Ticket cost is $5 per person. The event is open to the parish and the community. 'Bridging the Gap'
parade Jan. 17

BROOKSVILLE Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Day "Bridging the Gap" parade will be held Monday, Jan. 17. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Emerson Road and will end at Kennedy Park, 899 Kennedy Blvd., off State Road 50. Immediately following the parade, festivities will be featured at Kennedy Park. Mariner UMC to
hold yard sale

SPRING HILL Mariner United Methodist Church will hold a mega yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21-22, at the church located at 7079 Mariner Blvd., one block south of State Road 50. Boutique items, jewelry, books, clothing, shoes, purses, linens, household items, toys, glassware, gifts, furniture, pots and pans, crafts, dishes, yard items, tools, lumber, pressboard, plywood, 4-by-4 posts, and lots of other stuff will be featured. Two Florida Classic AKC Clusters come to town Jan. 13-23

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Florida Classic Park, 5360 Lockhart Road (SR 50 1- mile W. of I-75/Exit 301), Brooksville will host two AKC Clusters: from Jan.13-17 and Cluster 2 from Jan. 19-23 (no shows on Jan. 18). The event features more than 150 different breed classes and judging; obedience and rally trials. There will be vendors, K-9 demonstration, back stage visits. Admission is free, parking is $5.
