BROOKSVILLE - The Humane Society of the Nature Coast aims to expand on 10 acres of property directly across from its current location.
The animal shelter has raised nearly $70,000 toward the $165,000 purchase, which is due Dec. 31. If the money is raised by Nov. 30, however, the owner of the Wiscon Road property will donate $3,000 back to the Humane Society, according to a news release.
The first phase of the project will be an outdoor memorial center and meditation park for people who want to reflect on their past pets.
The expanded shelter will allow for an increase in the number of pets taken in and boost the number of adoptions, the release states.
