SPRING HILL - A man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Friday after he admitted to severely beating his 3-month-old son because he wouldn't stop crying, deputies said.
Michael P. Mihok, 23, of Spring Hill, initially told authorities he had fallen asleep on the sofa Wednesday and his son fell out of his arms and landed on the floor, according to an arrest report.
A doctor told the lead detective the child's injuries were inconsistent with the suspect's story, deputies said.
The same detective talked to Mihok again Friday, during which time he said he "lost it" and had thrown the baby into the crib, according to the report.
He also said he punched his son in the back of the head about four times, deputies said.
"Based on the seriousness of the injuries to (the victim) and the defendant's actions … (he) could have, but did not cause the death of (the victim)," the report stated.
The baby was transported to Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville and eventually airlifted to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
He is listed in serious condition.
Mihok was being held with no bond.
