BROOKSVILLE - Shark Theatre at Nature Coast Technical High School will present the classic Greek tragedy, "Prometheus Bound" opening Thursday Nov. 5 and running through Saturday, Nov. 7 in the Black Box Theatre on the NCTHS campus.

"Prometheus Bound" by Aeschylus was written approximately 2,500 years ago, yet still resonates with audiences today as it explores themes of justice, dictatorship and servitude.

According to ancient Greek mythology, the Titan Prometheus, against the will of Zeus, stole fire from the Gods and gave it to mankind so that the race of man might begin to flourish. The play opens as Hephaestus, God of Fire, under orders from Zeus, chains Prometheus to the top of a mountain to suffer for all eternity for his disobedience.

Nature Coast Junior, Colton Lawver, plays the title role. Lawver is best known to local audiences for his performance as Grandpa in the recent Shark Theatre production of "You Can't Take It With You." Also appearing are: Jessica Heffner as Io, Jacob Rice as Hephaestus, Cody Coudray as Hermes, John Varano as Oceanus, Kara George as Power, Christopher Combs as Force. Emily Cascio, Darlene Clarkson, Stephanie DelGatto, Sumer Doulk, Dana Ferello, Brooke Frausto, Corissa Glasheen, Savannah Halley, Megan Paradis, Shelby Santos, Daniela Serricchio, and Christine Sniffen as the Daughters of the Ocean.

The Shark Theatre production, under the direction of Nature Coast Technical High School theatre instructors Tim and Lori Erickson, features a 19-foot tall mountain set, a traditional Greek chorus and spectacular lighting and special effects.

Performances are Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5-6 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults.

This production is recommended for ages 10 and older. No one younger than 5 years old will be admitted.
