Editor's note: Following is a letter sent to county commissioners by County Administrator David Hamilton.
Commissioners,
Tomorrow you will likely read a story in Hernando Today related to issues at Fleet Management prompted by an anonymous note apparently from a County Employee. The note alleges that the Fleet Manager has a business relationship with a supplier of parts to the Department. Issues related to the operation of Fleet Mgmt. have been a part of ongoing work with Audit Services and this matter will be investigated as a part of their review. In addition, Charles Mixson and his staff have been reviewing and prodding into management practices at Fleet. Given this latest development, Charles contacted our office this afternoon from his vacation. We discussed the situation and have taken the following action.
1. Mr. Stepongzi has been escorted out of the premises by Gregg Sutton and Cindy Gambrel. This has been done to protect the County and the employee until issues are resolved. He has been directed to report to Charles Mixson at 8 a.m. on Monday morning when Charles returns.
2. Mr. Stepongzi's County Computer was locked down by our central I.T. Dept. freezing all information that may be needed for our review.
3. Audit Services has been asked to provide all available information to us on Monday.
Should you have any questions, please contact our office or call me on my cell phone …
