One of our most distinguished contributors to the Hernando Today letters to the editor posed a most significant question today, asking, "Why do Elected Officials refuse to listen to us?"
I am tempted to answer bluntly in terms a former Marine would understand instantly; but since this is a family newspaper, I will try to be more circumspect:
"Sir," because the d***ed criminals we perpetually send to Washington to represent us are twisted as d***ed snakes!
To clarify my somewhat general statement, I mean every last stinking congressman and senator (I purposely do not capitalize Senate or Congress because of their criminality they certainly don't deserve that honor)! This is a non-partisan shot. They all have their hands in someone's pockets!
From The Wall street Journal: "Senators Chris Dodd (D) and Kent Conrad (D) lawyered up when the Senate ethics committee asked about their VIP loans from Countrywide Financial."
"We're told that, at a closed Thursday meeting of Democrats on the House oversight committee, several Members urged Chairman Edolphus Towns (D., N.Y.) to allow a vote on California Republican Darrell Issa's proposal to issue the subpoena. Mr. Towns received two mortgage loans from the Countrywide unit that processed VIP loans but claims he received no special favors." (Sure!)
Dodd first received 'sweetheart' (lower rates) loans at 4.25 percent from Countryside in 2003 on his homes in Washington, D. C. and Connecticut! Due to the crookedness in the senate he has dragged out his criminality for six years and will probably prolong it much further.
In 2004 senator Kent Conrad was loaned "$1.07 million to refinance his vacation home, a loan for which Angelo Mozilo, Countrywide's chief executive, ordered a Countrywide employee to "take off one point (4 percent?)." Later that year, Sen. Conrad refinanced an eight-unit apartment building he owned with his brothers in North Dakota."
How many of us have two homes or more valued at $500,000 to $2 million? Since the loans were made in 2004, I compensated for inflation.
Another area that affects all of us on Social Security is the $4,800 automatic pay raise Congress gave itself effective January 2009 increasing its annual wages to $174,000. They voted to deny themselves a pay raise next January (2010) but, with an eye toward a better economic and political climate, decided to retain their automatic cost-of-living raises for future years. In case you missed it they voted to eliminate the annual (2 to 3 percent) Social Security increase because some nitwit in the accounting department figured that there was no inflation this year and will be none next year and maybe in 2011. So we will not get a Social Security raise for the next three years.
As I implied in earlier letters to the editor, we can't compete with all the mega banks, corporations, etc. shoveling illegal money into congressional pockets. Shucks, an annual salary of $174,000 plus about another half million in benefits etc. can't compete with the big boys.
"Sir," Do you need more colonel?
