SPRING HILL - An upcoming symphony concert is intended to boost the fine arts department at one of the local high schools.
The Hernando Symphony Orchestra will perform beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Springstead High School theater. Tickets are $10 apiece.
"We have one orchestra in place and we want to expand that," said Springstead Assistant Principal Gina Michalicka, who oversees the fine arts department at the school.
Beth Sprouse, a member of the symphony orchestra and an administrator at Springstead, helped facilitate the arrangements between the two sides, Michalicka said.
The orchestra also will perform its Christmas concert at the theater later this, according to its Web site.
There are about 30 students in the orchestra class at Springstead and a total of 350 who take fine arts-related electives, Michalicka said.
She said some of the students might sit in as guest players during the concert, but details were still being worked out as of early this week.
The money raised from the show will go toward the purchase of instruments, music and other supplies.
