BROOKSVILLE - The county clerk's office recorded 269 foreclosure filings in September, down slightly from 281 in August.
In September 2008, there were 333 filings.
Despite a recent slight improvement in existing home sales, national forecasts are not as optimistic.
"The recent trend shows broad improvement in most of the country, but with an expected rise in foreclosures over the next 12 months, we need to maintain a healthy level of ready buyers to absorb the inventory," said Lawrence Yun, chief economist with the National Association of Realtors.
