Give thanks to God first

Published: November 22, 2009

This Thanksgiving time coming up can be the same old get together time, or you can show your loved ones and friends that your prayer over the "vittles" is more than lip-service.

Give a clear, nonabrasive, loving mention of how this "Thanksgiving" time was not aimed at the food, friends and family, but at the One who has allowed this nation to be blessed. In the "good book," I have read in Psalms 115:13 that "He will bless those that fear the Lord — small and great alike." And while we, as a God-fearing nation, have enjoyed many blessed years, He is being pushed out of Thanksgiving just as "Merry Christmas" is being replaced by "Happy Holidays."

It is not unpatriotic to do this small thing now. Thanksgiving is an American holiday, but the way this country is heading on a downhill track, we may not be able to say "God and country" in the same sentence without censure.

Most of your table gatherings on that special day will have multiple generations gathered next to each other. What better place is there than this to do the right thing. Think about this as you see the day and the family members approaching.

If you are around our table, you will hear thanks given to God first, for this country He has blessed. The food and family will be mentioned soon thereafter.
