BROOKSVILLE - A Spring Hill man accused of firing a gun at someone at a party last month was arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder.
Naeem Rakim Johnson, 21, of 14267 Pablo Blvd., was at a party the night of Oct. 25 when he started a fight with another man, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
Johnson and the victim wound up fighting on the street in front of the house located off Killian Street, witnesses said.
At one point, Johnson pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and struck the victim in the face, breaking his nasal cavity and shattering his jaw, deputies said.
As the victim tried to run away, Johnson fired several shots in his direction, but missed him, according to an arrest report.
At least one other witness watched the fight and saw Johnson shoot at the victim. Other party attendees said they heard the shots and started to run, but didn't see who fired the gun, deputies said.
Seven shell casings were recovered at the scene, according to the report.
Johnson also was charged with aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
After the warrants were filed, Johnson fled the area. He eventually was located in a hotel in Pasco County, deputies said.
Johnson has been convicted in the past on various drug charges, according to court records.
