Post 8681 to host Rick Chapman

BROOKSVILLE VFW Post 8681 will host a dinner show featuring comedian/impressionist Rick Chapman on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Post located at 18960 Drayton St. Cocktail hour will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., dinner will be served from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and live music will be featured from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Chapman has performed on stage at the Las Vegas Stardust Hotel, Anaheim Convention Center, Disneyland, Church Street Station and University of Miami, along with many other local area performances. He has produced over 20 Air Force commercials and has toured with the Air Force Tops-In-Blue, appearing at over 120 military bases and installations throughout the world. Chapman performs impressions of over 100 voices and has appeared on stage with Jimmy Durante, B.B. King, The Lawrence Welk Orchestra, Frank Sinatra Jr. and the Platters. Ticket cost is $20 per person which includes dinner, and proceeds will go toward helping military families in need. Paid reservations are required by Tuesday, Nov. 17. Vendors sought for Post 9236 market

HERNANDO BEACH VFW Post 9236 Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Post located at 3435 Shoal Line Blvd. Vendors are being sought; spaces are available at a cost of $10 each. SNPJ Lodge to host Thanksgiving dance

SPRING HILL Slovene-American Club (SNPJ) Lodge 778 will host a Thanksgiving dinner-dance Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Lodge's party center located at 13383 County Line Road. Dinner will be served from noon to 1:30 p.m., and the dance will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. featuring polkas, waltzes, swing, etc. Musical entertainment will be provided by Steve Juricic & Tropical Squeeze. Call to Civil War Re-Enactors

BROOKSVILLE Civil War Era Re-Enactors, storytellers, and musicians are being sought. An open audition will be conducted from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Brewers Community Room, 1190 South Broad St. Civilian or military and Union or Confederate of all ages are welcome. Bring a rehearsed piece, Civil War era story, letter or song. Performers can attend in period attire, and there will be a $10 registration fee per auditioner. The audition will be for the on-stage production of "Civil War Tales – in Story, Song, General Lies and Exaggerations" presented by the Belle Letter Writers and 3rd Florida Wildcats to be performed by an authentic traveling troupe at the 2010 Brooksville Raid. Hi-Lites to present Christmas Show

SPRING HILL Hernando Hi-Lites will present its annual Christmas Show at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Mariner United Methodist church, 7079 Mariner Blvd. Traditional Christmas songs, as well as contemporary selections such as Frosty, The Snowman will be featured. Santa will make an appearance for young children and will distribute goodies. Following the show, a meet-and-greet with the performers and light refreshments in the foyer will also be featured. Art League to hold show

WEEKI WACHEE Spring Hill Art League will hold its 36th annual Fall Harvest of Art show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 21-22, at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park located at 6131 Commercial Way, at the intersection of State Road 50. Fair Assoc. to feature Fall Fest

BROOKSVILLE Hernando County Fair Association will feature a Fall Fest on the Grounds Friday through Sunday, Nov. 20-22, at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 Broad St. (U.S. 41). Gates will open at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20. Fall Fest Knock Out – Demo Derby will be held at 7 p.m. in the new arena, with gates opening at 6 p.m. The cost will be $10 per adult and $5 each for children 3 to 10 years of age, and children under 3 years old will be admitted free of charge. On Saturday, Nov. 21, gates open at noon. Home Town Cook-Off will begin at noon; and the Truck and Tractor Pulling Show will be held at 4 p.m. The cost will be $10 per adult and $5 each for children 3 to 10 years of age, and children under 3 years old will be admitted free of charge. Petting zoo at Grace Lutheran

SPRING HILL Grace Lutheran Church and Growing in Grace Preschool will feature a free petting zoo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the church located at 411 Mariner Blvd. Animals will include goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, tortoise, and bunnies. SPRING HILL VFW Post 10209 Men's Auxiliary will hold a fundraiser dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Post located at 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive. The event will feature Little Deuce Coupe, live doo-wop to disco – Memphis to Motown. The donation is $10 per person in advance or $11 per person at the door. Appraisal Show at St. Frances Cabrini

SPRING HILL St. Frances Cabrini Knights of Columbus Council 13209 will hold its Fall Antique Appraisal Show from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in Xavier Hall of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd. Dale Smrekar, a certified personal property appraiser, will be available who specializes in collectibles, fine art, jewelry, coins and paper money, oil paintings, sport memorabilia, antique guns, antique swords and knives, vintage toys, or anything of potential value. Smrekar has been providing appraisal services for attorneys, guardians, and individuals for the past 13 years. His appraisals meet Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices and are accepted by local court systems, insurance companies and the IRS. Appraisal cost will be $5 per item, and only verbal appraisals will be given. Nothing will be bought or sold during the event, and refreshments will be available. The show is open to the public. RIDGE MANOR Ridge Manor Property Owners Association will hold its annual Fall Arts and Crafts Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Ridge Manor Community Center, 34240 Cortez Blvd. The show will be combined with the Boy Scout Troup 406 breakfast to be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Outdoor spaces are available to rent for crafters with handmade items at a cost of $10 each and inside tables are $15 each. Paul & Jerry's to hold fall festival

SPRING HILL Paul & Jerry's Self Storage will hold its third annual fall festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at 10161 County Line Road. A yard sale and vendor show will be featured, with vendor spots still available. Entertainment, food, Florida Wildlife Alternatives, and more will be featured. First UMC to host Taylor Mason

SPRING HILL First United Methodist Church will host ventriloquist, musician, comedian Taylor Mason at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the church sanctuary located at 9344 Spring Hill Drive. Arts Club to hold show

BROOKSVILLE Arts and Crafts Club of Hernando County will conduct a show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Brooksville Woman's Club, 131 South Main St., just south of the courthouse. The show will feature jewelry and stained-glass products along with many knitted and crocheted items. The first 50 children attending will receive a free mini American flag. FASC to hold bowling event

SPRING HILL Filipino American Social Club (FASC) will hold a bowling fundraiser from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at Spring Hill Lanes, 3447 Commercial Way (U.S. 19). The event is being held to support the FASC Philippine Flood Victim Project since thousands of Filipinos are homeless and hungry after experiencing three devastating typhoons. The donation is $15 per person which includes three games, bowling shoes and ball. Special "bumper lanes" will be provided for children. Toys for Tots to begin season

U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program of Hernando County will begin its 2009 season with a registration program to serve children of the county. Children ages 6 months to 12 years old are eligible to participate. Registration will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marine Corps League Detachment 708 located at 8405 Sunshine Grove Road, off State Road 50, Brooksville, on the following dates: Nov. 18-21, 23-25, and 30; Dec. 1-5, 7-12, and 14-16. Note that the registration office will be closed on all Sundays and Nov. 26-28 for Thanksgiving. To register a child or children, the parents or a legal guardian must bring the following: 1. Driver's license, current utility bill in your name showing that you are a resident of Hernando County, and your Social Security card; 2. A birth certificate and Social Security card for each child to be registered. A guardian, foster parents or grandparents of a child must also bring papers or a court order which shows that the child or children are in your legal custody. BROOKSVILLE Central High School Navy JROTC will conduct Ye' Mystic Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the West Hernando Middle School parking lot located at 14325 Ken Austin Parkway. Arts, crafts, and local businesses will be featured. Games, face painting, food, etc. will also be featured. Vendors are being sought. The fee is $10 per outdoor space and $5 for each additional adjacent space. Set-up time will be from 7 to 8 a.m. All proceeds will benefit Central's Navy JROTC. La Sertoma to hold breakfast with Santa

SPRING HILL Hernando County La Sertoma Club will hold its annual pancake breakfast with Santa from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Guido's Restaurant, 7219 Forest Oaks Blvd., just off U.S. 19. All-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee will be served. A $3 donation per adult and child will be appreciated and can be paid at the door. Children ages 2 and under will be free of charge. There will be a surprise for children while supplies last, and raffle tickets for holiday prizes will be featured. The event is open to the public. The club holds fundraisers for scholarships for teens, holiday gifts for handicapped children in the county, and sponsors a child to Camp Endeavor, a summer camp for hearing-impaired children.
