Spring Hill - A state fire marshal will investigate a fire that broke out near dawn Sunday at a home off 9406 Manati St. in Spring Hill.
In a sheriff's report, Spring Hill Fire Chief Kevin Carroll said the fire marshal was called in "due to the suspicious nature of the fire."
Aldus Coffee, 51, told deputies he was returning home at about 5:05 a.m. and saw his step-daughter Brittany Condron's residence on fire. Coffee stated he thought the fire started in his step-daughter's room on the southeast side of the home.
Also on scene was Theresa Coffee, 47, who was yelling to deputies that Condron was still inside, a sheriff's report said. Spring Hill firefighters were briefed that there still could be someone inside the home and extinguished the fire.
But at about 5:30 a.m., Condron arrived and told deputies she lives alone and no one else should be in the residence. She said she didn't know of anyone who would set her house on fire, the report said.
She also told deputies there has been no electrical power inside the home for at least a month and she does not know how the fire could have started.
