We welcome to town a new shop on U.S. 41 near the yellow caution light in Masaryktown, across from the Cafe Masaryktown. The U.S. 41 Dollar Store, which opened a few weeks ago, is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sunday. It is owned by John Kiwan. From all reports, it is a well-organized store, offering a little bit of everything. From housewares, greeting cards, gifts, cosmetics, headphones, hardware, electronic devices, canned goods, toys, something for anyone and any age. If you can't find it anywhere else, chances are you could find it at the U.S. 41 Dollar Store.
The drive is on for Thanksgiving Day dinner for the needy at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on U.S. 41. Last week, they serviced 110 families and the count gets higher. The food pantry will be needing extras, such as cranberry sauce, stuff for stuffing, gravy, canned pumpkin, canned sweet potatoes or anything else that you care to donate anytime. The items for Thanksgiving by Tuesday, Nov. 24, anytime from 9 a.m. to noon or any time prior. Whatever, whenever, it will be greatly appreciated. Not to forget our troops overseas, items are still being collected, especially for the holidays. Especially now, greeting cards are being included in the packages. Just a few words, you can sign them or not.
Just a few encouraging words or seasonal greetings. Items needed are: phone cards, deodorants, women's hygiene items, insect repellents, dental stuff, shaving stuff, stationary, stamps, etc. Dollar stores are good places that offer a vast array of needed items.
On Nov. 8, Billy Vander Veer Jr. was 6 years old. His parents and grandparents Jerry and Pat Yearwood hosted a birthday party for him at their home in Spring Hill. Family members attending were his parents Roxanne and Billy Vander Veer, grandma and grandpa Renne and Leonard Parks, great-grandmas Shirley Mae Giani of Spring Hill and Barbara Copsey of Hudson, his aunt Brittany Yearwood and her son 5-month-old Jeremey Yearwood and Billy Jr.'s only cousin and his only uncle Christopher Vander Veer. The theme was Scooby-Doo and more than 25 family and friends had a great time.
Congratulations to Mona Premoral who is the entertainment coordinator for 2010 County Fair. Some local talent will be on the program. If you or your group has some talent to contribute, give Mona a call at 352-397-3351.
Mona is still teaching beading works. Now is the time to start for the holidays; just call Mona at 397-3351 and private lessons can be arranged. Get-well wishes are extended to Mona, who is home recuperating from minor medicinal issues.
Get-well wishes to Melanie Olson who is home over a week now with her medical issues. A speedy recovery and prayers are extended to both women.
