Grow up, take a cut

Editor's note: The following letter was written to Hernando County Supervisor of Elections Annie Williams and is reprinted here at the author's request.

I do not feel Commissioner Jeff Stabins should have taken it upon himself to judge your 30 years of experience. However, some of his suggestions are real.

First, you should have given your employees the same pay cut you took. If they can afford 5 percent, it is simple math that you could well afford the 5 percent as well as your low-paid employees.

Second, what is wrong with removing overtime allocations and to reduce staff through attrition? How is that absurd? As for your computer needs, Commissioner Stabins did overstep his bounds. I must agree with you about your fees and office supplies. Did he reduce his? In these times of hardship, all of us should run our offices with the frugality of a housewife!

Ask the senior population of the nation how they are to run their households when the federal government attacks them.

First, no raise in 2010 and 2011.

Second, this reflects badly on about 60 percent whose only income is a Social Security check. Most are lucky to even have $9 left after paying their bills each month.

Third, the roughly 30 to 40 percent of our senior population has to pay income taxes to the federal government on up to 50 percent of their Social Security check.

Mrs. Williams, grow up. Take a 5 to 10 percent pay cut and give it to your loyal employees.

As for you, Commissioner Stabins, I surely hope you practice what you are trying to shove down Mrs. Williams' throat!

Remember, at voting time, every one of us should go to the polls and vote all of you out. We need some real people running our government.
