'Field of Glory' to honor veterans
BROOKSVILLE Chocachatti Elementary School will feature a "Veterans Field of Glory" at the school located at 4135 California St. A 12x18 flag will be sold for $1 each as a fundraiser for the school from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday, Nov. 7-10. A name tag will be supplied free of charge with all flags purchased at the school. White tags will be used for living veterans and red tags for deceased veterans. For those who would like to place their own flag, a free name tag can be obtained at Sherwood Forest Nursery, 4157 Mariner Blvd., just south of Northcliffe Boulevard, Spring Hill. The flags will be placed from 4 p.m. until dark on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11. Ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. For more information, call Bob at 352-686-6962.
Post 9236 to hold ceremony
HERNANDO BEACH VFW Post 9236 will recognize veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 11, with a ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. at the Post located at 3435 Shoal Line Blvd. Guest speaker will be Rose Rocco. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call the Post at 352-596-9236.
Veterans Parade Nov. 14
BROOKSVILLE Veterans Appreciation Parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. Parade lineup will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind Brooksville City Hall located at 201 Howell Ave. in downtown Brooksville. Parking will be available in the adjacent lot on Orange Avenue. The public is encouraged to walk with the veterans to express thanks for their heroic deeds. Veterans ceremony at Post 8681
SHADY HILLS VFW Post 8681 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Post located at 18940 Drayton St., off County Line Road. The event will consist of the Post Color Guard, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Sea Cadets, Hudson High Drill Team, Pasco County Fire Department Honor Guard, vintage military vehicles, soldiers dressed in branch uniform and other activities. Call-in show to thank veterans
WWJB 1450 AM will open its airwaves on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, and allow callers to voice their appreciation to veterans and troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The second annual "Operation Appreciation" marathon call-in show will begin at 4 p.m. and will continue until the last phone call is taken; most likely beyond 10 p.m. All messages will be recorded to CD and included in care packages sent to service members. Hernando County students that participated in an essay contest with a topic based on Vietnam will be invited to read their essays live on the air. Students will also be awarded prizes donated by local companies in a random drawing. Donators include SunTrust Bank, Capital City Bank, Bank of America, Cortez Community Bank, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, and FAI International.
