BROOKSVILLE - The man killed in an Oct. 28 hit-and-run along State Road 50 has been named.
Jeffrey Dawson, 31, of Sarasota, was killed after three vehicles struck him heading eastbound along the highway toward Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Dawson was walking in the opposite direction along the south shoulder of the road when a Ford F-150 swerved off the street and hit him, troopers said.
He was still on the hood of the vehicle when the driver turned back onto the road, according to an accident report.
Dawson was ejected and hit by two more passing vehicles, troopers said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford pickup has not been named, but is under investigation, troopers said.
Sgt. Larry Kraus, an FHP spokesman, said evidence from the scene has been sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and charges could be filed within weeks.
