I would like to thank and acknowledge all of the wonderful people driving to work or other activities the morning of Thursday, October 29th. While we all have places to go, and usually a limited amount of time to get there, these amazing motorists stopped from their busy lives to show compassion and patience.
Another thoughtless person just "dumped" a dog at the Humane Society of the Nature Coast before we had opened for the day. As all loyal dogs do, he found a way out and wanted to go home. He was terrified and would not come to anyone. He zigzagged all over Wiscon Road and just stopped, frozen in the middle of the road. He would definitely have been hurt or killed if not for the 20 or so drivers who stopped, waited and offered assistance in securing the dog.
Fortunately, with food and patience a dedicated Humane Society volunteer coaxed this terrified pup into a sense of security and safety and the dog was finally brought into the shelter for evaluation. What first appeared to be a fearful and aggressive dog (he became quite agitated as we approached and gave us his best "bare my teeth and scare the strangers away" stance,) was only a youngster who was abandoned and terrified. He is loving and friendly, but very confused. This is no way to re-home or surrender a pet.
I would like to report to all of the wonderful drivers and volunteers who assisted in the rescue of this sweet boy, that he is safe, healthy and currently in a loving foster home.
I am so proud to live in a community with such compassionate and caring people. Thank you all for saving a life.
