It may be a very simplistic and "Pollyanna"-type view, but I think the major cause of all the problems we have in this country is because we've forgotten how to be civil to one another and how to put our heads together to solve problems.
We are too quick to blame the other side and too quick with the name calling. On TV, the left-wing talk show host, Ed Shultz, has a segment on his show where he picks out a right-wing person as the psycho of the day. Keith Olbermann almost spits on the TV camera lens calling Republicans names. And locally, our own Dallas Dunlap refers to right-wingers as "heavily armed, drooling lunatics".
On the right, there is Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck who sprinkle colorful names about left-wingers into their monologues.
When did we become psychos because we have a different opinion? We are all a bunch of phonies. We quote the Constitution about our right to free speech, but, when the other side disagrees with us, we call them psychos.
We need to get back to the America I thought I grew up in, where you are allowed to voice your opinion on an issue, where you can dissent without the fear of being called a name.
Maybe if we put more effort into working together, instead of thinking of names to call each other, we'd solve some of these problems facing us today.
I just heard this the other day and thought it was very good. It's a bit corny, but if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Someone had said that the eagle is the symbol of our country. The eagle is a beautiful and majestic bird, but the eagle needs both the
left wing and the right wing to fly.
Think about it.
