BROOKSVILLE - Authorities are asking for the public's help to solve the theft of 44 guns, including AK-47s and shotguns, from a repair shop in the industrial park.
The thieves smashed the front door glass and entered the White Wolf Custom Gun Shop sometime over the weekend of May 1. The burglary was discovered and reported May 4.
Sgt. Donna Black said the sheriff's office is working jointly with the department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms on the theft. Asked why the public was not notified sooner of the theft, Black said federal cases are usually only announced when a resolution is reached.
She declined to comment further on an open investigation.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved in the burglary.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 352-754-6830, or for anonymous tips worth up to $1,000, call 1-866-990-TIPS (8477).
