SPRING HILL - A suspected drunk driver crashed into a parked patrol car early Friday morning.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. as a deputy was calling in a stolen vehicle description at the intersection of Woodbine and Upton streets. The sound of screeching tires caught his attention and he looked into the rearview mirror to see a vehicle traveling southwest on Woodbine Street.
The car attempted a southeast turn onto Upton Street at a high rate of speed, but instead drove through the intersection, across a yard and into the rear of the patrol car, a report shows.
The deputy, who wasn't injured, hopped out of his car to check on the other driver, Cory Mixon. Mixon, 25, appeared "extremely impaired" and smelled of alcohol, so he was detained until backup deputies could arrive, a report states.
Mixon was initially arrested on an outstanding felony warrant for driving on a suspended license with knowledge. While deputies were investigating the DUI, Mixon began beating his head against the rear passenger window, a report states.
Deputies cut short the DUI investigation and took him to the county jail to keep Mixon from hurting himself and "to prevent any type of destruction to ... further agency vehicles."
At the jail, Mixon refused to submit to a breath test and made many statements that "had nothing to do with what was going on at the time," a report states.
Deputies say they later found an open beer container in the car's center console and an empty prescription bottle that had been filled with 60 pills on March 18.
Mixon was charged with felony DUI, refusal to submit to a breath test and felony driving on a suspended license.
