BROOKSVILLE - It is that time of year when the phones will be ringing and the volunteers will be number crunching all day Saturday at Cortez Community Bank.

Brooksville Rotarians are auctioning more than $56,000 worth of products and specials Saturday - an amount that surpasses last year's total.

The 30th annual "Live on Air" Radio Auction will feature fishing trips, restaurant specials, artwork, medical services and an array of coveted merchandise.

The highest valued prize to be auctioned is a one-year family membership at Southern Hills Plantation - worth nearly $10,000.

"Last year, we did a hair under $40,000," said Don Page, who manages Cortez Community Bank. "We've got some very good offers this year."

The auction, which will be aired on WWJB 1450 AM and will take place from noon to 6:30 p.m. All proceeds will go toward the Rotary Club's charitable trust.

The Rotary distributes its funds to a number of local charities and community groups.

Volunteers hope to collect up to 75 percent of the total value.

Saturday's auction is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Brooksville Rotary, Page said.

This year, there will be a required minimum bid of 25 percent of the item's retail value.

Typically, the auction items are broken down into segments of 15. The deejays call them out on the air and listeners have 30 minutes to call and submit their bids during each segment.

A complete listing of auction items can be found in today's and Saturday's Hernando Today.
