Re: "Hernando Issues - From The Sky" in the March 26 edition of Hernando Today.
I read, with interest, the article on Hernando County from the sky. Yet, I could not believe the remarks some of our commissioners made regarding new construction and our water supply. Did they not see the practically dried up lakes?
Lakes are now mere ponds, if there's any water in them at all, and our commissioners, all they could see was where new developments could possibly be built. Do they have tunnel vision? Are they thinking at all?
Rose Rocco's remark about "the flight giving her a better sense of where the development is going to occur and how it's going to affect our county" is absurd, to say the least.
The comment by Commissioner John Druzbick about "the view of the lakes is troubling" - well, doh! We're in the middle of a severe three-year drought. He also said "there's still plenty of land in Hernando County and the county is not overbuilt."
He went on to say "we have an opportunity to do some responsible building." Is he saying all the projects already under construction are the result of irresponsible building? Is the man wearing blinders? How many more homes have to sit vacant and be foreclosed on before our illustrious commissioners stop authorizing new construction?
It takes water to build all these new homes, retail and commercial projects and it also takes water to run these same projects. Water we don't have! Yet, project after project is approved by these commissioners.
I don't think these people see what we see, even though they had a "birds eye view" of what's going on.
