Nazdar,
The Masaryktown Baptist Church, located on Roosevelt Avenue and Kollar Street, will present a guest speaker, Jerri Vinton, at 7 p.m. tonight. She is a creationist scholar and will present "God's Creation versus Evolution...Truth or Consequences!" She will also be speaking on the "GAP" theory. The event is open to the public.
The annual Masaryk Birthday Celebration last week was a huge success. The board of directors extends big thank yous to all who came, especially thank you to those who prepared and presented this event. President Jim Sikes welcomed the guests and then gave the blessing. The national anthems were sang, the American "Star-Spangled Banner" by Jason Yungmann, the Czech "Kde Domov Muj" and Slovak "Na Tatrou sa Blyska," both sung by Sona Hucko, a musical presentation by Steve Aldridge and Malia Ondrejka, the Czechoslovak national dance - the Beseda - was danced in traditional Krojs. Dancers were: John and Sam Hlavac, James and Susan Carter, Keith and Michelle Alexsuk, Igor Hucko and Nicole Marshall, and directors Sidney Romine and Linda Lovelady. The "Ye Olde Model A Club" displayed their cars. And again, thanks to all for their time and efforts to make it a sellout.
At St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, the corned beef and cabbage dinner was very tasty and a success. Deep thanks to all who worked to make it successful and those who came and enjoyed.
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church extends thanks to you all for your donations to its food pantry. Your kindness does not go unappreciated, but the need for more continues to grow. They feed more than 60 needy folks weekly and don't forget the drive for the Haiti Missions. Needed items are: Similac Advance with Iron infant formula, cold and flu medicines for both adults and children, eye drops, cough drops, antibiotic ointments, Band-Aids, sinus meds, antacids, anti-diarrhea meds, multivitamins for all ages, moisture lotions, etc. Don't forget any supplies for our troops overseas - nonperishable - please. And please bring down your washed Yoplait yogurt foil inner lids - just bring any of the above to the church office. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Collections will continue until Dec. 31; and Yoplait will donate 10 cents per foil lid - up to $275,000 - to help feed the needy and hungry. Thank you for your help - in these times, everyone needs help. Also, Lutheran Hour Ministries has developed a Web site just for men! So, guys, check it out at www.lhm.org.
