Paying Twice

Paying Twice
Again, all you working for the county and/or our representatives should already have the information on any question asked without research. You people are being paid to know all about the county and its workings. You shape the county with this knowledge, and if you don't know the answer, we taxpayers already pay for phones and computers where you should be able to get the answer in minutes.
We taxpayers should not have to pay for something you should already know.
County waste over the years has final caught up, and now it looks like you people want to make us pay for it again.Waste? Yes, waste on another note! We paid for a $20 million radio system and millions a year on maintenance and yet we taxpayers pay for cell phones. Why the waste? I bet you dollars to police doughnuts that this type of waste with other toys is rampant also.

THE Bus Should Prosper
I have fond memories of riding the bus from Forest Hills to Tampa to go to work at Maas Brothers. I was sweet 16 in 1957. My mother also rode the bus for shopping. We made many friends and got to know our neighbors on the bus.
I hope THE Bus of Hernando will prosper. May I suggest that Hernando Today print the schedule of the bus route and publish it in your paper daily. If people had a schedule of times to catch the bus, they just might take the bus and save their gas money.
Please consider this idea. Thank you.

Serve The Needs Of Citizens First

As a retired educator and as chairman of the Hernando County Democratic Executive Committee, I call upon our legislators to make decisions based on the welfare of the citizens of this state.
We need legislators who are willing to speak for the thousands of uninsured children, the increasing number of families on food stamps and the growing numbers of the unemployed. School budgets continue to be slashed and pay is cut for staff and teachers, while our university system continues to slide into mediocrity. I find it unconscionable that wealthy individuals and corporations are able to purchase tax-exempt sky boxes at athletic events while our education system is decimated.
It filled me with pride recently to read that some Hernando County administrators would forego their small pay increases in order to decrease necessary cuts to the local school budget. Then we hear the announcement that the taxpayers will pay $13.1 million to ensure that the 1,100 state employees making $100,000 or more will continue to receive their regular salary, plus fully paid insurance premiums! Yes, this includes Gov. Charlie Crist, the entire Legislature and staff.
A politician chooses the path of least resistance that will ensure the largest donation during the next election. A leader, on the other hand, chooses the path that will best serve the needs of the citizens. To those legislators who would rather raise campaign funds than adequately fund our children's education, then let them hear our voice!
Make your will known by contacting state Rep. Rob Schenck at 850-488-6641 or 402 South Monroe St., Tallahassee, Fla., 32399; Sen. Paula Dockery at 850-487-5040 or 404 South Monroe St., Tallahassee, Fla., 32399; or Sen. Mike Fasano at 850-487-5062 or 404 South Monroe St., Tallahassee, Fla., 32399.
