Bright House adds Primetime On Demand

ST. PETERSBURG Bright House Networks recently announced the launch of Primetime On Demand as a way for consumers to catch on shows they missed during the original airing. Recent episodes of today's most popular programs are now available on Primetime On Demand including "Heroes" and "Friday Night Lights" on NBC, "Survivor" and "CSI" on CBS, "Monk" on USA, "Nip/Tuck" on FX and many more. Episodes appear on Primetime On Demand the day after their original air date and remain on the service for up to four weeks. Primetime On Demand is available at no additional charge to Bright House Networks Digital cable customers. AT&T program aims to benefit Florida education

ORLANDO AT&T recently announced a giving program designed to help Florida students. From March 2 through June 30, AT&T will donate a portion of its online, Florida wireless activation fees to the Florida Education Foundation (FEF). The proceeds will be used by FEF to advance educational excellence in Florida. Residents can participate in the program by going online to www.att.com/forFloridaSchools or clicking on the AT&T banner on the FEF website - www.floridaeducationfoundation.org. For those who choose to take part in the program, AT&T will donate $18 per new postpaid customer activation with a two-year service agreement to the Florida Education Foundation at no extra charge to the customer.

Brooksville Regional Hospital expands cardiac program

BROOKSVILLE Cardiac catheterization, balloon angioplasty, and stent placement are considered the gold standards in treating blocked coronary arteries. Brooksville Regional Hospital has been granted state approval to perform cardiac stenting and similar heart interventions. In order to earn the approval, the hospital met strict criteria and outcomes set forth by the Agency for Health Care Administration. David Hershman earns designation

SPRING HILL David Hershman of financial services firm Edward Jones has achieved the professional designation of Accredited Asset Management Specialist. He successfully completed the Accredited Asset Management Specialist, or AAMS, Professional Education Program from the Denver-based College for Financial Planning. He passed a final exam and signed a code of ethics and disclosure form to earn the AAMS designation. This advanced training offers investment professionals the hands-on information needed to provide comprehensive financial services. Study topics include understanding the asset management process to understanding asset allocation and strategies. Hernando Business Showcase will take place March 26

BROOKSVILLE In an ongoing effort to stimulate the local economy and encourage intra-county commerce, the Business Assistance Committee of The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce has announced the Hernando Business Showcase. This event will demonstrate the variety and quality of businesses, services and products available locally by providing businesses with a venue to represent themselves to the business community and the public. Business owners will showcase their goods and services and will be available to answer questions about their offerings. The showcase will allow companies of all sizes to network with each other and have the chance to gain new customers as well as find new businesses to patronize. This event was previously known as the Business Expo and in 2008 boasted a sell-out crowd with attendance exceeding 200 visitors. The Chamber expects at least 70 businesses to participate again this year. The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Heffernan Hall 20428 Cortez Blvd. Exhibitor space is available to chamber members for $70 and nonmembers for $100. Paul and Jerry's will host blood drive April 4

SPRING HILL Paul and Jerry's Self Storage is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 4. The business is located at 10161 County Line Road. All donors will receive a recognition item and cholesterol screening. Donors must be 17 or older (although 16 year olds may donate with written parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and have a photo I.D.

LifeSouth is a nonprofit volunteer blood center supplying blood for more than 120 medical facilities in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

Chamber offers public speaking course

BROOKSVILLE The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce recently announced it is offering a course in public speaking to its members and general public. The course consists of five weekly sessions of two hours each, from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, April 13, 20, 27, and May 4 and 11. The classes will take place in the Capital City Bank conference room at 14302 Spring Hill Drive. The instructor will be Vince Vanni, who has provided public speaking training to several business professionals and public officials. Vanni will combine his 35 years in sales, marketing and public speaking to help participants develop the presentation style that's right for them. Topics to be covered include dealing with fear, projecting confidence, preparing and delivering the speech and more. This is a hands-on course. Participants have the opportunity to develop and refine their skills through practical participation. The course will also cover how to properly use visual aids (especially power point), how to handle questions and answers, and even how to handle the hostile audience. A Certificate of Completion is awarded to those who attend 80 percent of the course (four of the five classes). The fee is $60 for chamber members and $120 for nonmembers. Golf tournament will raise funds for hospice

BROOKSVILLE The Men's and Women's Silverthorn Golf Associations are inviting individuals to play in their 12th annual tournament sponsored by the Hernando County State Farm Agents. The tournament will take place Thursday, April 16, at Silverthorn County Club, located at 4550 Golf Club Lane. Funds raised from the tournament will be directed towards Silverthorn's pledge to name a lanai after their community at Hernando-Pasco Hospice's new Hospice Care Center in Brooksville. The center will begin accepting patients by the end of March. The facility is primarily intended for hospice patients who are in need of short-term, specialized, round-the-clock care because of acute medical needs. The lanai faces south and includes a fountain, wicker furniture and white benches facing the woods.

10K/5K/1 Mile Fun Charity Run-Walk is April 18

SPRING HILL Jericho Road Ministries recently announced it is taking registrations for the Second Annual 10K/5K/1 Mile Charity Run-Walk for Jericho Road Ministries' Mary's House. The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, in River Country. Participants will organize at the entrance to River Country on U.S. 19. The entry fee is $20 for pre-race registration or $25 for registration on the day of the race. There is a special $3 registration for children younger than 12.
