If It Ain't Broke ...
What is the county thinking? Willy's Tropical Breeze Cafe on Pine Island has been the best kept secret in Hernando County for the past 18 years. Besides being absolutely beautiful, it has consistently great food, excellent service and it is spotless. It can be compared to a tiki bar in the Caribbean but can be found right in our own backyard.
Now, someone has decided it is time to take bids for the lease on this concession, which, by the way, is owned by Willy. That includes the tiki bar, the decking, etc. The land, of course, belongs to the county. Why would anyone want to change something that has worked so well for so many years? I am not alone in saying that the food is better at this little beach "cafe" than at most of our county's restaurants.
My husband and I will travel to the beach just to have lunch at Willy's. It is always a great experience. Many times, we are greeted by Willy, who always aims to please. He puts his heart and soul into his business and takes pride in keeping it a tourist attraction. I hope whoever is behind this "great" idea will reconsider, especially in an economy where many business are failing. The thought of someone running a snack bar on Pine Island who may not have the experience required to manage a successful business or who does not live on the island and feel so connected to it is absolutely ridiculous.
It ain't broken, so please don't fix it. If you want to fix something, try finding a solution to the parking problem or why the bacteria level in the water in the area is not always within acceptable levels.

Comparison Laughable
To read in Hernando Today that Judge Daniel Merritt is comparing a bathroom with a courtroom is laughable. Bathrooms are a necessity, while additional courtrooms are an option.
It appears that Judge Merritt needs a reality check that these are not only bad times - we are facing another economic depression. Hernando County should not spend the money to build additional courtrooms when a renovation of a portion of the third floor of the government center will provide more space.
If Judge Merritt is hell bent on having more courtrooms, provide him with some of the portables just like the classrooms that are being used by the children. Portables would provide the "reasonable and necessary space" for the judiciary that Judge Merritt is demanding.

Liberals: You Supply, I Demand
I usually ignore any comments liberals make, but I'll make an exception here.
Liberals, like the one's you have writing articles for your paper, typically use ad hominem attacks because they cannot defeat conservatives in logical, fact-based debates. Their brain has been marinated too long in socialist juices for them to imagine that some of us actually prefer taking charge of our lives and resent the government sticking its nose where it doesn't belong.
We are not constrained by socialist dogma to behave in certain ways and think in certain ways. We can analyze global warming based on scientific evidence because we are not ideologically committed to it because some politician tells us to be.
We don't subscribe to a creed that demands to be taken care of. I submit that we are far more likely to achieve our human potential than are the socialists. They have surrendered their potential to become slaves to away which has been proven a failure over and over.
Maybe socialists don't mind paying 40 percent of their wages in taxes so they can "socialize" while they wait in emergency rooms and clinics for treatment. I do mind. I take umbrage to paying the 40 percent and the long wait! That's why I'm a free man, not a deluded blind follower. I like people who think for themselves and tell the government to go to ... some place hot.
Finally, it is the height of arrogance and conceit to believe another human being, mortal and flawed like me, can dictate to another their idea of utopia. Their utopia is my prison.
Liberalism is a form of insanity for which there is no cure. It is easier for a gay person to go straight than for a liberal to regain their self, a self surrendered long ago to indoctrination and propaganda. They don't believe in the law of supply and demand. Their law is, you supply what I demand.
Might as well try to thread a camel through a needle!
