HERNANDO BEACH - Two men were killed in separate wrecks this week, including a man who overturned his car into a creek.
James P. Ramirez, 40, of Spring Hill was traveling southbound along Shoal Line Boulevard on Monday night when he traveled off the road and onto the west shoulder. Ramirez overcorrected, swerved and crashed his vehicle into a tree and overturned in a creek, troopers said.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway Patrol responded shortly after 8:15 p.m. to the crash scene, a mile north of Petit Lane.
Authorities say they found a 2003 Ford pickup overturned in Jenkins Creek. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation and a toxicology report is under way, troopers said.
On Wednesday afternoon, a Spring Hill man was killed when the Chevy Blazer he was driving left the road and crashed into a gas pump.
FHP reports that Robert Jenkins, 41, was headed south on Shady Hills Road in Pasco County when he barreled into the Marathon Gas Station just north of Little Ranch Road.
The Blazer struck a gas pump and a pillar, killing Jenkins. The collision caused a minor fuel leak, but the pumps were immediately shut off and the station was eventually declared safe.
Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call Corporal Ratcliffe at 813-631-4020.
