Man nets fifth DUI arrest

BROOKSVILLE - A man with fifteen driver's license suspensions was arrested Sunday on suspicion of his fifth DUI.

A deputy began following a southbound green Ford Taurus around 12:40 a.m. as it weaved across the lanes of Ponce De Leon. The car came to a complete stop at a green light at W. Jefferson Street, then made a poor turn onto Jefferson, a report states.

The car was pulled over and the driver reportedly gave a false name. With no one in the state of Florida registered by the name of Manuel Torres, the deputy came up with Gilberto Torres' name through the license plate, a report states.

The computer check also turned up 15 license suspensions — the most recent for DUI— and four prior DUI arrests, according to a report.

Torres, 48, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, driving on a suspended license, giving false information and refusing to submit to a sobriety test.

Teen accused of mischief claims 'black out issues'

SPRING HILL A man with supposed "black out issues" couldn't explain to deputies why he was being accused of pulling a mailbox out of the ground.

Deputies were sent to Eldron Street around 4 a.m. Sunday to investigate a criminal mischief complaint. The victim told them that she heard a loud banging noise and looked out the window to see a man pulling her mailbox out of the ground and walking off with it.

She yelled at the man to leave her mailbox alone, so he tossed the mailbox in the lawn across the street, breaking its top. The man emerged from nearby woods as deputies pulled up and identified himself as Johnathan Jimison, 18.

Jimison initially denied the allegations, but then said he might have had something to do with it, but he couldn't remember because he has "black out issues," a report states.

He was given a misdemeanor criminal mischief citation.
