BROOKSVILLE - Recent heavy rains and a reduction in the drought index prompted county commissioners Tuesday to lift the four-month burning ban in Hernando County.
As of Monday, the Keetch-Byram drought index was 55.The index ranges from 0 (no moisture deficit) to 800 (desert conditions).
Water restrictions continue in effect.
